Antique Taco

You'll walk in with an intense craving for their carnita tacos and margarita specials and you'll walk out with a newfound love for vegetarian tacos and creamed corn. You have to stop here while in Chicago, if you can make it out to the neighborhood of Wicker Park.

A few weeks ago I had a one-night, mid-week trip to Chicago for work and I knew I was going to take advantage of my time there as much as I could. Luckily for me, while my evening was booked up for business, I had a few extra hours during the day to meet up with my friend Eric, who's been a Chicago resident for the past few years. 

Eric lives in the neighborhood of West Town so we made the quick walk towards Wicker Park, an edgy neighborhood known for it's iconic and funky shops. I particularly found love in all their vintage shops and Antique Taco. 

Eric and I don't see each other very often (usually once a year) so we decided to go all out with our order. Even though it was only lunchtime on a random Wednesday, we knew we had to indulge ourselves in some pomegranate margaritas (the special that day). With starters consisting of creamed corn (why have I not had this sooner in life) and classic guacamole, we were settling into food heaven just fine. 

But we were not prepared for the tacos. Sure, the pork carnitas tacos were delicious, but we could not have predicted the delicious and jaw-dropping monstrosity that was the poblano and potato taco. I mean, just look at the photos and imagine eating a juicy baked potato covered in melted cheese and potato crisps and scallions and other miscellaneous scrumptious things sprinkled on top including the tears of gods and that will give you a sense of what was happening in my mouth. Antique Taco, I will return.
