5 Icelandic Airbnbs for Large Groups

Traveling in large groups can be stressful on many levels: Who should book what, what restaurants accommodate everyone's food preferences, how do we split costs, how do we balance all of these crazy, insane personalities!? Well, we still need to work on that last one, but we became pros at booking the perfect Airbnbs during our 7-day Icelandic Road Trip with ten people (in two cars). Some of our favorites are down below.

1. Apartment in the Heart of the City (Link)
Reykjavík, Iceland

This apartment in the heart of Reykjavik is a minimalist's dream come true, and it was the perfect place to celebrate our last night in Iceland. There were plenty of sleeping accommodations and ample room for shenanigans. Our host was extremely welcoming and greeted us in person to hand-off the key and walk us to the space, leaving us after a quick tour. Not to mention, we were just a quick walk from Laugavegur street, where all the bars, restaurants, and shops were located. Bring it on, Reykjavik nightlife!

2. B14 Hostel (Link)
Reykjavík, Iceland

Talk about a bonding experience. We managed to squeeze all ten of us into one single room at the B14 Hostel and, due to the black out curtains for both the entire room and each individual bed, we all managed to sleep soundly and defeat our jet lag. There was a common area as well for those who wanted to stay up later and plenty of parking for our vehicles. The only downside? Sharing 3 bathrooms between all ten of us (and additional hostel guests). Better hope you all like each other.

3. Farmer's Guest House (Link)
Hella, Iceland

As we headed east from Reykjavik, we found ourselves stopping for the night in Hella, Iceland, a small town along southern Iceland that was hella nice (apologies for the pun). The Farmer's Guest House was the perfect fit for all ten of us and we even had enough seating to cook a family dinner (not to mention a family breakfast - consisting of some treats left by the host). The icing on the cake was the stables just a few steps away from the guest house; newborn baby sheep had just arrived a few days prior so we were able to pay them a little visit and get a feel for life on an Icelandic farm.

4. Hrifunes Rustic + Cozy Guesthouse (Link)
Kirkjubaejarklaustur, Iceland

If you're looking to be isolated with no one else around for miles and miles, Kirkjubaejarklaustur has got the hottest, new guesthouse. It's got everything: Vast, empty fields, a cozy fireplace, plush sofas, a record player, little homemade goods for sale, and the best home cooked meal you'll have in Iceland. Hands down. The host offers a home cooked meal that you'll share with other guests in her cozy Airbnb, for an additional cost, and I highly recommend it. All ten of us collectively agreed it was the best meal we had in Iceland and I still dream about it to this day. We also got lucky and were treated to some homemade moonshine - surprise, surprise ... it was also incredibly delicious.

By the time the multiple-course meal was over, we happily settled in like loaves of bread, ready for a good night's sleep. There were plenty of bedrooms with a variety of set-ups (two twins, one queen, bunk beds, etc) as well as a small additional building for more private stays.

5. Charming Cottage in the Northwest (Link)
Skagaströnd, Iceland

While we couldn't fit all ten of us in this little Skagaströnd cottage, we couldn't resist it and ended up splitting our party in half. Six of us ended up crashing here; two of us took the main bedroom, one of us took the couch, and the remaining three of us took the upstairs loft area, which technically could hold four. While it was tiny, we still managed to get cozy together and even hosted the full group of ten for yet another home cooked meal before we parted ways for the night.

The town of Skagaströnd, while small and adorable with a population of just under 500, was limited in the evenings when it came to grocery stores, so be sure to stock up elsewhere if needed.
